Raising Nature Lovers
A girl could use a little help! I knew tons about Florida wildlife, but little about what's around here! I want to pass on a love of nature to my boys, and field guides are great ways to invoke interest and encourage learning! We sat and looked at some of these for a really, really long time at the Smithsonian store the other day!
As these are meant to be carried outside, and are going to be thumbed through by small hands, used books would be AWESOME! Click on the link to see the exact book and look at the listings for used books (you can often order 2 or 3 used copies for the price of one new book, and they're usually in great shape)! Nearly all the books below are printed by the Smithsonian. I haven't tried B&N or Borders, but any shops I've seen them in sell them for $20+ Amazon.com has new copies for around $13 each, and used copies for even less!

Dinosaurs
